Cardiac Studies in South Florida
A cardiac study is a test that helps physicians diagnose or manage heart conditions. Your health care provider may order a radiology appointment to determine if you need medical intervention or check the effectiveness of your current treatment plan.
Impression Imaging is your cardiovascular imaging center in Miami. We offer fast, convenient scheduling for patients and quick results for doctors. Our experienced radiology team will answer your questions and ensure your comfort during your exam.
Benefits of Cardiac PET Scans
Impression Imaging provides advanced imaging technology to our clients. Many of our cardiac radiology services use positron emission tomography (PET). PET scans use a radioactive dye and a specialized camera to provide detailed images of the body's internal systems.
Except for the dye injection, PET scans are noninvasive and typically take around 30 minutes. The exceptional detail of their images often allows doctors to diagnose with fewer scans and can decrease the number of monitoring scans during treatment.
Cardiac Radiology Services
Depending on your medical condition, your physician may refer you to a cardiovascular imaging center for one of the following services:
Nuclear Stress Test
This procedure checks blood flow and your heart's electrical rhythm while your heart is under stress and at rest. For the stress portion of the exam, you will have the option to walk on a treadmill or take a medication that induces pharmacological stress. During the rest portion, you'll be injected with a radioactive dye and then lie down for 15 to 45 minutes while a special camera takes pictures of the blood circulating through your body.
Myocardial Viability PET Scan
This scan is administered to patients who already have an existing heart condition or who have recently suffered a cardiac injury, such as a heart attack. It assesses damage to the heart muscle. For this test, you'll receive two injections — one with the traditional radioactive dye and one with another radioactive tracer containing fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and glucose. You'll be scanned by the PET camera after each injection.
PYP Amyloidosis Scan
Amyloidosis is a rare disease, but it can be detected with a pyrophosphate (PYP) scan. This exam uses single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging equipment and a radioactive tracer to check for amyloid fibrils in the heart muscle.
